Meet the teacher

My name is Alejandra (Ale) Jimenez and I am from Cuernavaca, Morelos (Mexico). I got my Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a certification on Mexican Folk Dance and Art at Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Morelos in Mexico. In 2010, I moved to Kenosha, where I earned my Master’s Degree in Education at Carthage College. Then, I moved to Milwaukee to work as a Bilingual Environmental Educator and Summer Camp Counselor at the Urban Ecology Center from 2012 to 2016. I also worked as a Teaching Assistant at Downtown Montessori Academy in 2022.  I am the Director of Ometochtli Mexican Folk Dance Group since 2022. I have been teaching Aztec Dance and Mexican Folk dance in the last decade in community centers, public and private schools in Mexico and the USA. I am a supervisor at the University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin for the Fieldwork in Inclusive Early Childhood: Dual Learners.

I have been teaching Spanish, Environmental Education and dance for over 15 years. I am passionate about my culture and my language. I love nature, and I believe exposure to nature brings joy, creativity, calmness and it helps facilitate concentration.

I am a mom of two fully bilingual children. They are 11 and 9 years old. My family loves to explore and discover new places, to meet new people, and to enjoy nature.

I started a Cooperative Early Childhood Bilingual Nature Group in 2016 because of the need to expose my kids to nature, to encourage them practice their mother language, and also to build a community of families that share the same values. In this group, both my children and I found valuable friendships, which has boosted me to continue this journey with Semillitas – Spanish in Nature.
