This morning, as I took a few moments to reflect on our last Semillitas class of 2024, I couldn’t help but smile. What more could we have asked for? It was truly the perfect ending to a year full of memories, joy, and learning. Laughs, smiles, delicious food, songs, a piñata, and most importantly—friends.
All the families arrived with big smiles, and while a few were absent due to illness or travel, their spirit was still felt. Whether near or far, we all shared in the love and enthusiasm that filled the air.
The classroom was empty, with no materials to guide us, but we were ready for adventure. With only a map in hand, we set off on a journey of discovery. And the best part? The kids, some as young as two years old, were able to pinpoint their location on the map! It was amazing to see how these young explorers used their logic and senses to find hidden treasures around the prairie. Some treasures were cleverly camouflaged, and the children relied on their sharp eyes to spot them. The joy on their faces as they ran, raced, and searched was priceless.
When we found the final treasure, the excitement only grew. It was time to dive into our big project—the piñata! For many of the children, this was their first time ever making a piñata, and we all learned the magic of creating our own “engrudo,” a special homemade glue. Watching parents’ faces light up with wonder and amazement as they joined in the fun was an unforgettable moment. It was a true team effort, and together, we created something beautiful.
And of course, no piñata party is complete without the fun of breaking it open! We ended the class with the same excitement and joy that many Mexican families experience during Las Posadas celebrations. It was a time to bond, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company. We learned more about each other in those moments than words could express.
That hour, filled with surprises and laughter, will stay in my heart for a long time. These memories—of teamwork, fun, and celebration—will be tucked away in my treasure chest of 2024 Semillitas moments.
